MEET OUR TRIBE
BROWN GIRL jane is owned and founded by two sisters, Malaika and Nia Jones, along with beauty and wellness expert Tai Beauchamp, with the stated intention of creating a space and product line that supports approachable and realistic wellness centering women of color.
Working directly with farmers, chemists and manufacturers, we've developed a collection using the highest quality of plant-based, broad spectrum products that address the needs of busy, dynamic women like us.
We are bonded both through friendship, family, Spelman College 💙, and our collective appreciation for the energy shifting power of CBD.
We are women who are proven leaders in business, wellness, beauty and philanthropy, and have each built our reputations in our respective fields through an unwavering commitment to the advancement of disenfranchised and underrepresented communities. The combination of our professional expertise and personal backgrounds makes us deeply committed to the quality of our products and to the inclusivity within the overall industry.
Welcome to our Tribe!
I started BROWN GIRL jane after falling in love with the healing power of plants and CBD, but never finding products that resonated with me or other women like me. After suffering spinal nerve damage during the birth of my third child (yep, ouch), I began experimenting with holistic alternatives to traditional pharmaceutical medicine and discovered Cannabidiol.
BROWN GIRL jane is the result of this research and passion, and I cannot wait to share the same energy shifting benefits I've experienced with my sisters.
As a mother, wife, and entrepreneur, I know firsthand the physical and mental effects of juggling many balls in the air. Our collection is designed to address the same stress, anxiety and physical discomfort that I've encountered in my busy life....naturally.
- malaika jones kebede, FOUNDER
Malaika spent many years as a senior executive in investment banking and trading. She graduated from Spelman College and completed the Executive Education program at Harvard Business School. After her youngest child was born she left Wall Street and started her own consulting firm, primarily guiding minority-owned and women-led businesses. She has been a driving force in getting companies excited about what could be and then finding ways to make it a reality. Malaika lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband and three children.
When I first experienced the BROWN GIRL jane collection, I was blown away by the efficacy. Integrating Brown Girl jane into my wellness practice allows me to naturally support my immune system and regulate my mental health. This range was a game-changer for me and it became my obsession to introduce it to women, especially women of color everywhere.
I'm grateful to live a wonderfully rich life, but it moves at a breakneck speed! Between planes, personalities, and everything in-between, I know that my wellness has to be at the center of how I function and excel on a daily basis. Like many of us, I'm proudly so many things to so many people, and my self care routine is vital to maintaining balance.
We've worked, and continue to work everyday, to craft and grow this collection in the image of the dynamic women who are conquering new heights, shattering ceilings, and supporting communities around them. This is for you.
tai beauchamp, CO-FOUNDER
Tai Beachamp, named one of the 50 most influential people in the multicultural market by WWD, is an award-winning producer, TV host, and brand consultant, known most for her expertise in marketing to women. Formerly a leading editor for Harper’s Bazaar, Good Housekeeping, O, The Oprah Magazine, and Seventeen magazines, Beauchamp departed publishing in the earliest days of social media to leverage her vast audience platform to empower, educate and entertain women of all ages. Currently living in Los Angeles, Tai is a New Jersey native and proud Spelman College alum.
Our CBD line has felt like a deep breath on the days I need it most. I'm a busy mama living in New York City, I am all too familiar with the city (and particularly the kiddos in my apartment) that never sleeps. Our collection has become a staple in my daily routine, and a helpful addition to making me feel more balanced and present.
As a mother of 2 wonderful and BUSY young sons, I frequently found myself obsessing over every single ingredient they would ingest or touch (sorry, boys). While CBD has taken the edge off, I applied that same level of dedication and micro-focus to ensuring the purity and quality of our BROWN GIRL jane collection.
My background as a director in philanthropy has also made me especially cognizant of the inequalities within the hemp industry overall, and I'm committed to changing the face of its beneficiaries and leaders while also working to make it much more accessible to people of color.
