CBD is simply the abbreviation for cannabidiol, one of the many cannabinoids, or compounds, found in the hemp plant.
BROWN GIRL jane is made from the highest - quality Broad Spectrum CBD available on the market, and we are excited to share how ALL of this works so you are educated and knowledgeable.
There is a wide range of potential benefits associated with CBD, largely because CBD interacts with multiple receptor systems in the brain and body that regulate things like appetite, pain management, digestion, reproduction, stress and memory, addiction, and depression.
Let's dive into CBD 101.
THE BIG ONES:
What is it? CBD is a powerful plant extract that has been used for wellness for thousands of years. It is oil extracted from the entire hemp plant (leaf, flowers, seed, and stalk). Numerous studies have been performed around the therapeutic effects of CBD and suggesting its efficacy in dealing with a host of wellness related issues.
CBD is naturally occurring, and is the second most abundant cannabinoid (organic compound) found in cannabis, only behind THC.
CBD is non-intoxicating (it will NOT get you high)
CBD is not addictive
*According to the World Health Organization, "In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential... To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD."
CBD vs. THC
THC is the part of the hemp plant that causes a "high". Hemp plants sold in the USA must have less than 0.3% THC, which means that hemp-derived CBD oil will not cause any intoxicating effects. At BROWN GIRL jane we also remove even the trace amounts of THC as an extra precaution.
Gets you high
THC binds directly to CB1 receptors, which are mostly found in the brain and nervous system, which leads to its strong psychoactive properties.
Does not get you high
CBD is believed to moderate the “high” and other effects associated with THC (paranoia, anxiety).
CBD does not bind directly to CB1 or CB2 receptors, which is why it doesn’t produce intoxicating effects.
Instead, it activates the endocannabinoid system by enhancing the natural positive effects of certain proteins and enzymes. This is why so many therapeutic benefits can be attributed to CBD.
CBD and your internal receptor system
CBD is one of many cannabinoids in hemp that has an array of effects on our body’s endocannabinoid system. We have receptors and compounds in our bodies that interact with the compounds that naturally occur in hemp. Many leading doctors, scientists and experts in the field believe that combining CBD with the many other naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids found in phytocannabinoid-rich hemp plants may offer a range of measurable health benefits never before seen in the pharmaceutical, food or dietary supplement industries.
A group of compounds that are found in the cannabis plant (phytocannabinoids) as well as in the body (endocannabinoids) and created synthetically (synthetic cannabinoids).
ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM (ECS)
One of the body’s major regulatory systems and the primary homeostatic regulatory system which means that it keeps a bunch of the body’s key systems balanced and running smoothly.
These include the:
STRESS & MOOD
APPETITE & METABOLISM
IMMUNE HEALTH & INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE
The endocannabinoid system is made up of a series of receptors distributed throughout the body, namely CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors interact with cannabinoids like CBD and THC resulting in various side effects.
